49.1

भवत्प्रभावाविदुरा हि गोपा

स्तरुप्रपातादिकमत्र गोष्ठे ।

अहेतुमुत्पातगणं विशङ्क्य

प्रयातुमन्यत्र मनो वितेनु: (49.1)

 

bhavatprabhāvāvidurā hi gopā

staruprapātādikamatra goṣṭhe.

ahetumutpātagaṇaṃ viśaṅkya

prayātumanyatra mano vitenuḥ. ॥१॥

 

ഭവത്പ്രഭാവാവിദുരാ ഹി ഗോപാ

സ്തരുപ്രപാതാദികമത്ര ഗോഷ്ഠേ ।

അഹേതുമുത്പാതഗണം വിശങ്ക്യ

പ്രയാതുമന്യത്ര മനോ വിതേനു: ॥1॥

 

അങ്ങേ പ്രഭാവമെന്നതെന്നറിയാതിരുന്ന

ഗോപൻമാർ മരങ്ങൾ കടപുഴകിവീണ

വാർത്തയും മറ്റപശകുനങ്ങളും മൂലം

ദുർനിമിത്തങ്ങളൊഴിവാക്കുവനായ്  മറ്റൊരു

നാട്ടിൽ മാറി താമസിക്കാനുറച്ചു കൂട്ടമോടെ

  

The twin trees fell, and Vraja had such mishaps,

The Gopas believed they were all ill omens.

Unable to grasp Your glory and might,

Safer to migrate to another place, they thought.

 

Due to various mishaps, including the ominous news of the twin trees collapsing, the Gopas, unable to comprehend Your divine glory and greatness, regarded these events as ill omens. Consequently, they resolved to relocate and establish a new settlement for their community elsewhere.

 

49.2

तत्रोपनन्दाभिधगोपवर्यो

जगौ भवत्प्रेरणयैव नूनम् ।

इत: प्रतीच्यां विपिनं मनोज्ञं

वृन्दावनं नाम विराजतीति (49.2)

 

tatrōpanandābhidhagopavaryō

jagau bhavatprēraṇayaiva nūnam.

itaḥ prātīcyāṃ vipinaṃ manōjñaṃ

vṛndāvanaṃ nāma virājatīti. ॥२॥

 

തത്രോപനന്ദാഭിധഗോപവര്യോ

ജഗൗ ഭവത്പ്രേരണയൈവ നൂനം  ।

ഇത: പ്രതീച്യാം വിപിനം മനോജ്ഞം

വൃന്ദാവനം നാമ വിരാജതീതി ॥2॥

 

“ഗോകുലത്തിൻ പടിഞ്ഞാറായുണ്ടു ദൂരെയൊരു

മനോജ്ഞമാം വിപിനം, വൃന്ദാവനം, നമുക്കു  

സുഖമായ് വാഴാൻ പറ്റിയൊരിടം” ഏവം പറഞ്ഞൂ

ഉപനന്ദൻ, ഭവദ്പ്രേരണയാൽ തന്നെ നിശ്ചയം  

 

“West of Gokula is Vrindavan, serene,

A forest area for us to settle in peace.

So said Upananda, the assistant Chieftain,

Indeed, he was guided by You, the divine.

 

“West of Gokula lies the enchanting forest of Vrindavan, a place of serene beauty and tranquility, well suited for settlement.” The assistant chieftain of the community, Upananda, expressed his firm opinion. Indeed, he was prompted by You alone.

 

 

49.3

बृहद्वनं तत् खलु नन्दमुख्या

विधाय गौष्ठीनमथ क्षणेन ।

त्वदन्वितत्वज्जननीनिविष्ट

गरिष्ठयानानुगता विचेलु: (49.3)

 

br̥hadvanaṃ tatkhalu nandamukhyā

vidhāya gauṣṭhīnamatha kṣaṇēna.

tvadanvitatvajjananīviṣṭa

gariṣṭhayānānugatā vīceluḥ. ॥३॥

 

ബൃഹദ്വനം തത് ഖലു നന്ദമുഖ്യാ

വിധായ ഗൗഷ്ഠീനമഥ ക്ഷണേന ।

ത്വദന്വിതത്വജ്ജനനീ നിവിഷ്ട

ഗരിഷ്ഠയാനാനുഗതാ വിചേലു: ॥3॥

 

നന്ദനും ഗോപന്മാരും താമസം മാറ്റാനുറച്ചൂ വീടുകൾ

കാലിത്തൊഴുത്താക്കി ബൃഹദ്വനത്തിൽനിന്നും

യാത്രയായീ നല്ലൊരു വാഹനത്തിലങ്ങയേയുമമ്മയേയും

കയറ്റി, പിന്നാലെ നീങ്ങീയവർ ഉത്സാഹമോടെ.

 

Migrate for good, Nanda and the Gopas decided,

Converted their settlement in Brihadwana into a cowshed.

To the beautiful Vrindavan, they set forth moving,

You and Your Mother, in a grand chariot, leading.

 

Nanda and the Gopa community resolved to migrate to Vrindavan, repurposing their dwellings in Brahmāvana into cattlesheds. You and Mother Yaśodā traveled in a resplendent chariot, escorted by a retinue of Gopa families.

 

49.4

अनोमनोज्ञध्वनिधेनुपाली

खुरप्रणादान्तरतो वधूभि: ।

भवद्विनोदालपिताक्षराणि

प्रपीय नाज्ञायत मार्गदैर्घ्यम् (49.4)

 

anōmanōjñadhvanidhēnupālī

khurapraṇādāntaratō vadūbhiḥ.

bhavadvinōdālapitākṣarāṇi

prapīya nājñāyata mārgadairghyam. ॥४॥

 

അനോമനോജ്ഞധ്വനിധേനുപാലീ

ഖുരപ്രണാദാന്തരതോ വധൂഭി: ।

ഭവദ്വിനോദാലപിതാക്ഷരാണി

പ്രപീയ നാജ്ഞായത മാർഗദൈർഘ്യം ॥4॥

 

വൃന്ദാവനത്തിലേക്കുള്ള യാത്രയിൽ കാലിക്കുളമ്പടി

നാദവും രഥചക്രങ്ങൾതൻ കടകടാരവവും കേട്ടും

അങ്ങു ചൊല്ലും കളിവാക്കുകൾ രസിച്ചുമിരിക്കും  

ഗോപസ്ത്രീകളറിഞ്ഞതില്ലാ യാത്രാദൂരമൊട്ടുമേ.

 

The Gopa women, lost in your playful chatter,

Trampling rhythm of cattle and chariot’s clatter.

Captured by the melody, they lingered,

Left unaware of the distance traversed.

 

 

The womenfolk, wholly engrossed in the melodious cadence of Your playful words, the measured rhythm of the cattle’s hooves upon the earth, and the resonant clatter of the chariot wheels, remained oblivious to the distance traversed.

 

49.5

निरीक्ष्य वृन्दावनमीश नन्दत्

प्रसूनकुन्दप्रमुखद्रुमौघम् ।

अमोदथा: शाद्वलसान्द्रलक्ष्म्या

हरिन्मणीकुट्टिमपुष्टशोभम् (49.5)

 

nirīkṣya vṛndāvanamīśa nandat

prasūnakundapramukhadrumaugham.

amōdathāḥ śādvalasāndralakṣmyā

harinmaṇīkuṭṭimapuṣṭaśōbham. ॥५॥

 

നിരീക്ഷ്യ വൃന്ദാവനമീശ നന്ദത്

പ്രസൂനകുന്ദപ്രമുഖദ്രുമൌഘം ।

അമോദഥാ: ശാദ്വലസാന്ദ്രലക്ഷ്മ്യാ

ഹരിന്മണീകുട്ടിമപുഷ്ടശോഭം  ॥5॥

 

വിടർന്നു വികസിച്ച പൂക്കൾ നിറഞ്ഞ കുന്ദം

പോലുള്ള വൃക്ഷകൂട്ടങ്ങളും മരതകക്കല്ലുകൾ

പതിച്ച തളംപോലുള്ള പുൽമേടുകളും നിറഞ്ഞ   

വൃന്ദാവനം കണ്ടതിസന്തോഷവനായീ ഭവാൻ

 

O Lord! You beheld Vrindavana in delight,

Clusters of trees, Kundas in bloom, so bright.

Vast green meadows stretch, like an emerald spread,

You were enchanted by it, radiant and vivid.

 

Beholding Vrindavana adorned with clusters of flowering trees, such as the radiant Kunda in full bloom, and vast meadows of verdant grass resembling expansive vistas inlaid with emerald, O Lord, You were enraptured.

 

 

49.6

नवाकनिर्व्यूढनिवासभेदे

ष्वशेषगोपेषु सुखासितेषु ।

वनश्रियं गोपकिशोरपाली

विमिश्रित: पर्यवलोकथास्त्वम् (49.6)

 

navākanirvyūḍhanivāsabhēdē

ṣvaśēṣagōpēṣu sukhāsitēṣu.

vanaśriyaṃ gōpakishōrapālī

vimishritaḥ paryavalōkathāstvam. ॥६॥

 

നവാകനിർവ്യൂഢനിവാസഭേദേ

ഷ്വശേഷഗോപേഷു സുഖാസിതേഷു ।

വനശ്രിയം ഗോപകിശോരപാലീ

വിമിശ്രിത: പര്യവലോകഥാസ്ത്വം ॥6॥

 

വൃന്ദാവനത്തിൽ പുതു പുതു മന്ദിരങ്ങളിൽ

സുഖമായ് വസിച്ചൂ ഗോപന്മാരെല്ലാവരും.

ഭഗവൻ ഗോപബാലന്മാരെക്കൂട്ടി അങ്ങാ  

വൃന്ദാവനത്തിൻ ഭംഗിയേറെയാസ്വദിച്ചൂ

 

In Vrindavana, the Gopas built their settlement,

In a semi-circle construction, they were content.

With Gopa lads, through forest paths, You roamed,

Took in nature’s charms, joy, and wonder bloomed.

 

In Vrindavana, the Gopa community established their new dwellings in a semi-circular formation, ensuring a comfortable settlement. Accompanied by the young Gopa boys, you wandered through the forest, marveling at its enchanting landscapes with deep admiration and boundless joy.

 

49.7

अरालमार्गागतनिर्मलापां

मरालकूजाकृतनर्मलापाम् ।

निरन्तरस्मेरसरोजवक्त्रां

कलिन्दकन्यां समलोकयस्त्वम् (49.7)

 

arālamārgāgatanirmalāpāṃ

marālakūjākr̥taniṛmalāpām.

nirantarasmerasarōjavaktrāṃ

kalinḍakanyāṃ samalōkayastvam. ॥७॥

 

അരാലമാർഗാഗതനിർമലാപാം

മരാലകൂജാകൃതനർമലാപാം ।

നിരന്തരസ്മേരസരോജവക്ത്രാം

കലിന്ദകന്യാം സമലോകയസ്ത്വം ॥7॥

 

കമനീയകാന്തി തെളിഞ്ഞു ശ്യാമാഭയാർന്നും വളഞ്ഞ

കൈവഴികളിലൂടൊഴുകിയും അരയന്നങ്ങൾ കളി പറഞ്ഞും,

താമരകൾ തിങ്ങി വിടർന്നു പുഞ്ചിരിച്ചും, സാമോദമങ്ങു

കളിന്ദപുത്രി, യമുനയെയൊരു കന്യയെപ്പോൽ കണ്ടുവല്ലോ

 

You beheld Yamuna, Kalinda's daughter,

With her winding ways, with pristine water.

Like a maiden fair, she caught your gaze,

Swans at play, their cooing in a melodic phrase.

The river with lotus buds blooming bright,

You saw her beauty and splendor in delight.

 

You beheld Yamuna, the illustrious daughter of Kalinda, her pristine waters meandering gracefully through serpentine paths. As if gazing upon a youthful maiden, you saw the river, observing the swans at play, their melodious calls reverberating. The river’s surface blossomed with abundant lotus buds, each in full bloom, adorning her with nature’s delicate splendor.

 

 

49.8

मयूरकेकाशतलोभनीयं

मयूखमालाशबलं मणीनाम् ।

विरिञ्चलोकस्पृशमुच्चशृङ्गैर्

गिरिं च गोवर्धनमैक्षथास्त्वम् (49.8)

 

mayūrakēkāśatalōbhanīyaṃ

mayūkhamālāśabalaṃ maṇīnām.

viriñcalōkaspr̥śamuccaśr̥ṅgair

giriṃ ca govardhanamaikṣathāstvam. ॥८॥

 

മയൂരകേകാശതലോഭനീയം

മയൂഖമാലാശബലം മണീനാം ।

വിരിഞ്ചലോകസ്പൃശമുച്ചശൃങ്ഗൈർ

ഗിരിം ച ഗോവർധനമൈക്ഷഥാസ്ത്വം ॥8॥

 

മയിലുകൾ പാടിത്തിമിർത്താരെയും ആകർഷിക്കുമിടം,

നാനാവർണ്ണക്കിരണങ്ങൾ പൊഴിക്കും രത്നമണികളാൽ

തിളങ്ങുമതിവിശിഷ്ടമാം ഗോവർദ്ധന ഗിരിയെ, അങ്ങു

കണ്ടൂ സത്യലോകം മുട്ടുമാറുയർന്ന ഗിരിശൃംഗങ്ങളോടെ.

 

You saw the mighty Govardhana with its peaks, so tall,

Touching the heavens, Brahmā’s abode and all.

Peacocks sing and dance there, attracting everyone,

Gems in the mount projecting rays in radiant tones.

 

You beheld the majestic Govardhana, its towering peaks soaring so high as to graze the celestial realm of Brahmā. This sacred mountain resounds with the calls of peacocks as they attract all.  From its depths, radiant hues emanate, cast forth by the brilliance of the precious gems it contains.

 

49.9

समं ततो गोपकुमारकैस्त्वं

समन्ततो यत्र वनान्तमागा: ।

ततस्ततस्तां कुटिलामपश्य:

कलिन्दजां रागवतीमिवैकाम् (49.9)

 

samaṃ tatō gōpakumārakaistvaṃ

samantatō yatra vanāntamāgāḥ.

tatastatstāṃ kuṭilāmapaśyaḥ

kalinḍajāṃ rāgavatīmivaikām. ॥९॥

 

സമം തതോ ഗോപകുമാരകൈസ്ത്വം

സമന്തതോ യത്ര വനാന്തമാഗാ: ।

തതസ്തതസ്താം കുടിലാമപശ്യ:

കലിന്ദജാം രാഗവതീമിവൈകാം  ॥9॥

 

ഭവാൻ പിന്നെ ഗോപബാലൻമാരുമൊത്തേതേതു

വനദേശങ്ങളിൽ എത്തിയോ അവിടെല്ലാം കാളിന്ദി

രാഗവിലോലയാ,യേകാകിയായ് വളഞ്ഞുപുളഞ്ഞ്  

അങ്ങയെത്തന്നെ പിൻതുടരുന്നവളായി കണ്ടുവല്ലോ

 

Wherever, with the Gopa boys, You ventured,

In the forest, lush green, You wandered,

Yamuna seemed to follow Thee like a lass.

Lost in love, pursuing a secret to disclose.

 

 

In the verdant expanse of the forest, where You roamed with Your companions, the Gopa boys, the river Yamuna seemed to curl and meander as though she were a love-stricken maiden, silently pursuing You, eager for a clandestine rendezvous.

 

49.10

तथाविधेऽस्मिन् विपिने पशव्ये

समुत्सुको वत्सगणप्रचारे ।

चरन् सरामोऽथ कुमारकैस्त्वं

समीरगेहाधिप पाहि रोगात् (49.10)

 

tathāvidhē'smin vipinē paśavyē

samutsukō vatsagaṇaprachārē.

caran sarāmō'tha kumārakaistvaṃ

samīragehādhipa pāhi rōgāt. ॥१०॥

 

തഥാവിധേഽസ്മിൻ വിപിനേ പശവ്യേ

സമുത്സുകോ വത്സഗണപ്രചാരേ ।

ചരൻ സരാമോഽഥ കുമാരകൈസ്ത്വം

സമീരഗേഹാധിപ പാഹി രോഗാത് ॥10॥

 

ഏവം മനോഹരമാം വൃന്ദാവനത്തിൽ പശുക്കൾക്കേറെ

പ്രിയമാമിടത്തിൽ ഏട്ടൻ ബാലരാമനും കൂട്ടകാരുമൊത്തു

പൈക്കിടാങ്ങളെ മേയ്ക്കുവാനുത്സാഹമോടെ സഞ്ചരിച്ചതാം

ഗുരുവായൂരപ്പാ! എൻ രോഗപീഡകൾ മാറ്റി രക്ഷിക്കണേ!  

 

You roamed through Vrindavan's lush groves,

With Balarama and Your young mates.

Tending cows in forests, for them to freely graze,

O Lord of Guruvayur! Pray, cure me of my disease.

 

You then roamed with great zeal through the green groves of Vrindavan, tending to the cows in the forests that were naturally suited for them to graze, accompanied by Your brother, Balarama, and Your friends. O Lord of Guruvayur! May Your divine grace shield me from the afflictions that torment me.
